Although one of the more obscure Sarah Vaughan compilations on the market, this is a must for any serious fan of The Divine One as it culls together some of her finest recordings for the Musicraft Records label, for whom she registered three hit singles in 1947/48. And although none of those hits are in this volume, what is here involves her magic collaboration with some of the best musical groups in seven sessions ranging from May 25, 1945 to November 8, 1947. All with impeccable sound reproduction. The two-page insert contains a brief synopsis of her life from her birth on March 27, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey to her untimely death from lung cancer on April 3, 1990 at her home in Hidden Hills, California. It also contains a sessionography for each recording session which involves fellow greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and the orchestras/combos of Teddy Wilson, George Treadwell and Ted Dale orchestras. The Musicraft singles represented in this album are (with recording years): 1946 - Don't Worry 'Bout Me - The Teddy Wilson Octet - Musicraft 421; September Song - The Teddy Wilson Quartet - Musicraft 446 (also Musicraft 500-B); Time After Time - The Teddy Wilson Quartet - Musicraft 462; Everything I Have Is Yours - with The George Treadwell Orchestra - Musicraft 494; I'm Through With Love - with Dizzy Gilespie & His All Star Quintet - Musicraft 499; 1947 - I Don't Stand A Ghost Of A Chance With You b/w I Cover The Waterfront - with The George Treadwell Orchestra - Musicraft 503; Penthouse Serenade (When We're Alone) b/w I've Got A Crush On You - The Teddy Wilson Octet - Musicraft 505; Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child b/w The Lord's Prayer - Musicraft 525 - this and all the rest with The Ted Dale Orchestra; 1948 - Trouble Is Man b/w I Feel So Smoochie - Musicraft 533;Love Me Or Leave Me - Musicraft 539; The One I Love Belongs To Somebody Else - Musicraft 552; I'll Wait And Pray b/w I Get A Kick Out Of You - Musicraft 586; Button Up Your Overcoat - Musicraft 593.
