This is a truly AMAZING album! An eclectic collection ranging from blues, to jazz to R&B, Renaissance Man displays the innovation and artistry that occurs when a group of seasoned professionals work as one under the creative beat of Jaimoe's extraordinary drumming. Creative freedom, improvisation and ideas are encouraged by Jaimoe and the result a complex mix of fresh sounds rooted in rich musical traditions. While Allman Brother's fans will be well satisfied with the band's take on "Melissa", in true Jaimoe style, the album features mainly original tunes, mostly penned under the deft hand of self-taught musician extraordinaire Junior Mack, who also delivers electrifying guitar and lead vocal performances throughout the album. Mack's prowress as a writer and performer is equally matched in compositions and musicianship of the other band members, including Bruce Katz's "Hippology" and the playful, lilting jazz tune "Points of Friendship" by Reggie Pittman, which includes solos by nearly all of the band members, along with Pittman's own gorgeous Flugelhorn parts. This is a real "musicians" recording, for those who can hear and appreciate the nuances the music has to offer, while at the same time, reaching out with such universal themes so expertly done, the casual listener will be captivated as well. Listen to this album, and you will rejoice! (And try to catch the band live for an unforgettable experience! )
